We think a blank wall is a missed opportunity
Thread Theory is a one-person hand-tufting studio. We punch oversaturated yarn into pieces that ask to be touched, not just looked at — made in small batches, never mass-produced.
It started with one punch-pink square and a wall that needed something. No second color to hide behind, just loops pulled tall until the whole thing threw a shadow.
That piece — First Batch — is still re-punched whenever the yarn comes back in. Everything since has followed the same rule: pick the color first, make it loud, and let the texture do the proving.
We work in small runs because slower production is a feature, not a limitation. No two pieces leave the studio at exactly the same loop height. That's the point.
Color first
Every decision starts with whether it makes the color louder or quieter — never trend or convenience.
Texture is the proof
If a piece could be a flat print instead, it's not doing its job. The pile has to be visible everywhere.
Small batch, no apology
We don't rush the craft to chase volume. Slower is the feature.
Plain talk
No jargon, no artisanal passion. We describe what something is and let the work do the impressing.
Find the loudest thing in the room.
The current batch is small and it moves. If a colorway speaks to you, it probably won't wait.
